Isis and Nephthys resurrected him, and Horus avenged him, by killing set, Osiris, the firstborn son of Nut (the sky) and Geb (the earth), got to rule Egypt with his wife, Isis. His son Horus became king of the living world in his place. Everyone who was passed through to the afterlife is Osiris’s friend. Osiris’s younger sisters are Nephthys and Isis. In some tales of this story Horus is the eldest brother, but Usir is chosen out of favoritism, and in other tales, Horus is Usir’s son. Anubis is also Osiris’s son. Anubis embalmed Osiris, so Osiris could move onto the afterlife. This is how Anubis became the god of mummification. It is said that the way that Anubis was conceived, was that Nephthys disguised herself as Isis, then seduced Osiris, to then become pregnant. Nephthys was already in a relationship with Set, so, Set tells Osiris about it, then Osiris makes Set unfertile. Set then gets angry and kills and dismembers Osiris. In other tales such as Ennead, Osiris is obsessed with his brother Set, and originally wanted to have a child with him. This may seem odd because both are considered to be male. Osiris then remembers that after Nephthys seduced him, he made Set unfertile. While remembering this, Osiris then becomes abusive, and assaults Set. This is one of the reasons to why Osiris ends up dead.

Set, Seth, Sutekh, Σήθ, swtẖ, stẖ, sɛθ or Sēth. These are all the names of Osiris’s younger brother/murderer/nemesis. Set as we shall call him, is the god of storms, disorder, violence and foreigners in ancient Egyptian religion. Set murdered Usir (Go to the Origins page of this website and read the whole story) and flung 14 pieces of him all over Egypt. This is what made Set Osiris’s nemesis. But, Osiris was the one who started this feud, that then lead to his murder. Was Osiris deserving? Did he have it coming? Or was it all Set’s fault? When Osiris died, there were 2 people who were able to become king: Set and Horus. One night, Set invited Horus to a bar, where Horus got extremely drunk. Set then invited Horus back to his house, and tried to seduce him. If Horus became pregnant, Set would become king, and Horus would be his ‘queen’. Horus then noticed that this was his plan, and pulled away. Horus then caught some of Set’s semen, and ran away. The next morning, Horus went over to a lettuce plant, and put some of his semen inside. In Egypt, lettuce was not something to go in your salad, but it was considered to be an aphrodisiac. This means it aroused someone sexually. After the lettuce grew, Horus retrieved the lettuce and gave some to Set. Set then ate it. While Set was munching on his lettuce, Horus told him of the plan he had. Set spat out the lettuce, and while Set was down, Horus drew his sword and stabbed him.
